‘Winnersville Classic’ tickets available Monday, ticket office prepares for rush

| August 14, 2016

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) — It’s one of the most important days of the year in South Georgia, and the only people guaranteed a ticket for the Winnersville Classic are season ticket holders.

“You don’t know how many friends you got until that week,” says Terry Daniel, Valdosta City Schools ticket manager.

If you’re a religious wildcat or viking, you probably know the guy.

Terry Daniel has been selling Winnersville tickets for 21 years.

“It takes about a week preparation to get ready for that one game, where normally it takes me a day to prepare for any other game.”

He says over 10,000 tickets are printed in April, then stored in a fireproof vault.

That’s until Monday, when the ticket office opens at three in the afternoon.

“People will probably start getting in line between three and four o’clock in the morning on Monday.”

Those aren’t the only people Daniel deals with.

Calls come in from all across the country.

“That was one their bucket list, to visit Valdosta and go to a Winnesville game.”
He says he doesn’t mind because this is his favorite time of the year.

“I get excited when the window opens at three o’clock Wednesday afternoon. It’s going to be hot and steamy, but it just signifies Winnersville.”

Wednesday is the last day to buy tickets.

That will also be Daniel’s last time handing them out before he retires.

“One day I may end up back in here who knows.”

Selling tickets that mean much more than bragging rights, but a lifelong tradition.

Daniel says if Valdosta claims victory, this will be their 900th winning game.
