Student arrested after gun found in trash can at Cook High School

COOK Co. – A 15-year-old Cook County High School student was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a school resource officer found a handgun in a garbage can.

Officials were called to the school at approximately 2:30 p.m. after receiving reports that a student had brought a handgun to school. While investigating the claim, a school resource officer located a Berretta in the trash.

Officials reportedly determined a 15-year-old student inadvertently brought the gun to the school. The student was arrested and charged with one count of bringing a weapon onto school grounds.
