Former Colquitt County worker Renee Beamon has been handed a 15 year prison sentence 13 of them may be served on probation. Beamon will also have to make restitution of just over $82,000 by order of the court.

Gale Gillard has been arrested. According to Valdosta State Prison officials, the food service employee was caught attempting to bring contraband cigarettes and a lighter into the prison.

36-year-old Javares Simmons and Kerry Walker Jr. both of Macon were arrested during a drug raid. The men have been charged with trafficking in cocaine and a weapons charge has been lodged against Simmons. During the raid law enforcement officials confiscated cocaine with an estimated value of $466 thousand dollars. They also confiscated marijuana and prescription narcotics.

Sharah Denton the Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section Founder and Immediate Past President of the National Council of Negro Women has been elected to serve as the state of Georgia NCNW Interim President. Denton is the new Development Director at LAMP (Lowndes Associated Ministries to People).
