VALDOSTA – Wednesday morning, Miller Hardware in Valdosta wrote a check for $650 to support youth programs at the local Boys and Girls Club.

The South Georgia business says it was their first time raising money by selling 5-gallon buckets in their store.

For six days, customers that bought a bucket for $5 contributed to the fundraiser.

To make things more interesting, anything that fit inside the bucket received a discount on their total purchase.

In less than a week, they say they exceeded their expectations by selling more than 100 buckets.

The store raised over $300, then matched it in donations.

“For the Boys and Girls Club for most of us, we’ve been involved in it”, says Marty Ellison, Store Manager of Miller Hardware & Seasons Garden Center. “I even have a son that played at the Boys and Girls Club. Some of us may have even attended there when we were kids, so that’s an easy choice to pick with the benefits they have to offer.”

With kids back in school, the Boys and Girls Club says the donations will benefit their after school programs.
