VALDOSTA – A grand jury has indicted a man for the fatal stabbing a woman and injuring another at a Valdosta motel.

Robert Emmanuel Gamble, 20, was indicted Monday by a Superior Court of Lowndes County Grand Jury. Gamble has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, seven counts of possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, three counts of aggravated assault, home invasion and felony murder.

The charges stem from the April 19 stabbing of Cecilia Whiddon, 50, and another woman at the Big 7 Motel in the 1800 block of West Hill Avenue, according to police reports.

At approximately 2:40 a.m. that morning, Valdosta Police Department officers arrived at the hotel to find the two women with stab wounds. Whiddon was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services and later released.

During the investigation, investigators reportedly learned a possible dispute occurred between one of the victims and Gamble. During the dispute, Gamble allegedly stabbed both victims and then fled the area, said VPD Lt. Adam Bembry.

Gamble was arrested as a suspect in the 100 block of East North Street less than two hours after the incident, reports stated.

A trial date for Gamble has yet to be set.
