GSP: Two local traffic fatalities, 62 injuries in July

VALDOSTA – According to Sergeant First Class Jeromy Roberts, Post #31 Valdosta Troopers investigated 144 traffic crashes, resulting in 62 injuries and 2 fatalities during the month of July 2016.

SFC Roberts also said during the month of July, Post #31 Troopers had the following activity: 503 citations, 22 D.U.I. arrests, 45 Seatbelt Violation citations, 17 Child Restraint Violation citations, 27 Distracted Driving citations and 214 Speeding citations. Post #31 Troopers also made 1 drug arrest and apprehended 1 wanted person during the month.

Post #31 Troopers issued 643 warnings during July and accumulated 25 hours conducting RoadChecks during the month.

SFC Roberts reminds drivers to always wear your seatbelt. Each year about 33,000 people are killed in motor vehicle crashes.  According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), car crashes are the leading cause of death for people age 4 and every age 11 through 27 in the U.SMore than half of the people killed in car crashes were not restrained at the time of the crash. Wearing a seat belt is the most effective way to prevent death and serious injury in a crash. Research has shown that passengers in a motor vehicle reduce the probability of being seriously injured or killed by nearly 50 percent by properly using safety restraints while in the vehicle.
