VALDOSTA – A former Valdosta State University student has been sentenced after pleading guilty to bringing a gun on campus during a protest in May 2015.

Eric Sheppard pleaded guilty to one count of carrying a weapon in a school safety zone one year after the incident occurred.

Sheppard was sentenced Monday to three years probation, a $2,000 fine, and 120 hours of community service. Sheppard must also pay $1,036 in restitution to Lowndes County. The sentence also bans him from the VSU campus.

In April 2015, VSU police discovered a handgun in a book bag left on campus following a demonstration in which Sheppard attended.

Investigators later linked the gun to Sheppard through a purchase receipt from a pawn shop, according to police reports.

Sheppard was part of a group which held several protests in which an American flag was placed on the ground and repeatedly walked on. The protests gained national attention after Air Force Veteran and former Playboy model Michelle Manhart was briefly detained but not arrested by campus police for taking the protesters’ flag during a demonstration.

Sheppard eluded police for a month and was arrested in Miami, Fla. in May 2015.

While he was on the run, Sheppard sent a rambling manifesto to the Valdosta Daily Times claiming to be a “terrorist toward white people.”

    • J lineberger says:

If it would have been a white man he would have been charge with a hate crime and went to prison

      • Love says:

Lmao this comment has got to be a joke! I stand behind you Eric!

        • An Observer says:

I sure hope you’re not homosexual, white or a non-radical Muslim if you’re standing that close to him. FYI, he wants to kill people in those categories. If you stand behind that, you are as demented and evil as he is.

          • Clive says:

No He was not against all of those. He just had very strong views on the things happening to people of color in America.

    • Hood says:

Oh snap, but the person that on welfare and hates white people. Let’s gooooooo

    • Spectator says:

Dats right!! My boy walking and still talking!

      • An Observer says:

He obviously said the gun was his. Where are all the folks with vivid imaginations who said the gun was planted in his back pack? It’s just a matter of time before he’s caught on the wrong side of the law again.

    • Robert says:

He should have never received probation for this. O.C.G.A. 16-11-127.1 clearly states what should have happened to this guy and probation was not one of them. Under this law, Eric should have been sentenced as follows…(Any person convicted of a violation of this subsection involving a dangerous weapon or machine gun, as such terms are defined in Code Section 16-11-121, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000.00 or by imprisonment for a period of not less than five nor more than ten years, or both.)

He admitted guilt and being that he was sentenced to probation and such a low fine, he clearly plea bargained. Well….it will be only a matter of time before he violates probation.

    • An Observer says:

It’s abundantly clear he’ll head straight toward trouble again. Here’s an excerpt from his manifesto sent to a media outlet while he was in hiding, graphic language warning:

“But the TRUE Supreme Court of Almighty A.L.L.A.H. will not be in a Building built by the Hands of White Men…Fires shall Consume Your Bodies, Heads Will Be Severed and Your Blood will Flow in the Streets.

I say, if they don’t get out of town, we kill the white men, we kill the white women, we kill the white children, we kill the white babies, we kill the blind whites, we kill the crippled whites, we kill the crazy whites, we kill the faggots, we kill the lesbians, I say god dammit we kill ’em all.”

If you support this train of thought, you are part of the problem as well.

They should havenanned his butt from Lowndes County too.

  3. No Nonsense says:

This mess would not be tolerated if VSU was located in Rebecca GA. Bet your bottom beanpole on it.

  5. will says:
