Release from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office

This morning around 11 a.m., a resident noticed a vehicle parked at a residence on Val Del Road and saw people loading property from the house into the car. The person immediately called 9-1-1 and provided a description of the vehicle, a white passenger car.

A lookout was broadcast to deputies, and shortly after a deputy saw the vehicle fleeing the area. The driver and occupants abandoned the vehicle on Alderman Road and ran on foot into a wooded area. About an hour later, deputies arrested three suspects as they exited the wood line on Val Del Road as they attempted to evade a Sheriff’s Office canine that was tracking the trio.

In the area and inside the vehicle, deputies and detectives recovered property from the Val Del Road burglary and are reviewing other items to determine if it also may be stolen. Crime scene investigators have processed the burglary scene and vehicle for forensic evidence as detectives continue to follow up leads that have been developed.

“We are so thankful for the citizen who was paying attention to their surroundings and noticed the suspicious activity. That telephone call certainly led to this case being solved and may help other victims. It takes everyone to fight crime,” said Sheriff Chris Prine. “We have increased our patrols to help prevent these burglaries and will be working to follow up leads and may connect this group to additional thefts and burglaries.”

Due to the ongoing nature of this investigation, the names and photographs are not yet being released. Additional details will be released as the investigation progresses.

Sheriff Prine is asking anyone who lives or travels the Val Del Road area who may have witnessed anything unusual or suspicious in the last few days to contact the Sheriff’s Office at (229) 671- 2950; or anonymous tips can be provided at (229) 671-2985 or on-line at www.lowndessheriff.com.
