13 Lowndes students transported for treatment following I-75 bus wreck

LOWNDES CO. – Thirteen students were transported for medical treatment following a wreck involving a Lowndes County school bus on Interstate 75 Monday afternoon.

Lowndes County Schools Bus 0908 which transfers students from Lowndes High School to Lowndes Middle School was involved in a vehicle accident on I-75 south of Exit 16, according to a released statement from Lowndes County Schools.

“We are waiting for the final report from authorities on the accident. No students were life-flighted, although we are grateful that life flight responded to the scene. Thirteen were transported to SGMC for treatment,” stated the release.

The Georgia State Patrol is on the scene and issued a statement:

“All lanes are blocked at this time, and Lowndes County has units on scene at this time as well. EMS is en route due to multiple injuries, unknown number of children on the bus and unknown number of injuries as well.”

    So glad the kids are okay. I would have been on that bus had my circumstances not changed. so glad my little brother was okay.

    I JUST WANT TO THANK GOD FOR HIS MERCY! THANKING GOD FOR THE CHILDREN AS WELL AS THE BUS DRIVER SAFETY!! IT COULD OF BEEN WORSER BUT GOD SAW FIT.YOU CAN ALWAYS RECOVER BUT YOU CAN’T GET ANOTHER LIFE!PRAYN FOR THE PARENTS, AND BOTH DRIVERS. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME!!

    What a tragedy, we hope all involved and their loved ones can find strength together. We would suggest that all involved in the accident be medically examined due to mechanism of injury and that a debriefing coupled with trauma and grief counseling be offered. Also that there be actions taken for future far reaching safety measures concerning school buses, be it mechanical or additional employees/attendees: possibly police escorts. Authorities could begin with published open minded discussions with implementable safety precautions. May God hold all in his hands… we will hold you in our hearts…
