VALDOSTA – The Valdosta Police Department is investigating a reported gunfire incident stemming from a dispute inside a vehicle Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1:25 p.m., VPD patrol officers and detectives responded to the 3200 block of Inner Perimeter Road in reference to a reported gunshot, said VPD Capt. Kari Williams.

“When officers arrived on scene, they did not locate any injured persons in the area. Through the investigation, they learned that the two parties were having a dispute over money while inside of a vehicle,” Williams said. “One of the parties produced a handgun and a struggle ensued. According to the victim, they are familiar with the two suspects who live in Sparks, Georgia.”

During the struggle, the weapon reportedly discharged inside the vehicle, causing damage. A concerned citizen contacted 911 to report the incident.

“One half of the dispute was located by police officers who had responded to the gunshot call as they were leaving the area. Person’s Crime Detectives responded to talk with him and at this time there are serious concerns about the validity of what he told detectives,” Williams said.

This case is still under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Valdosta Police Department.
