Earnest Holcomb 28

FITZGERALD – A suspected murderer is back behind after escaping from the Ben Hill County Jail.

Earnest Holcomb, 28, reportedly escaped through the jail’s roof Wednesday afternoon.

Holcomb is one of the seven people charged with murdering a Fitzgerald lottery winner earlier this year.

Holcomb was captured Thursday night in Ocilla. A tip led investigators to find Holcomb hiding under a house.

Holcomb will be charged with felony escape in addition to the murder charges related to the home invasion shooting death of lottery winner Craigory Burch. Holcomb remains in the Ben Hill County Jail but will be moved to an undisclosed location.
