ADEL – Georgia police say a 22-year-old pregnant woman is dead after being shot by her 14-year-old half-brother.

The Adel Police Department says that the shooting happened Wednesday at a home in the 800 block of Guy Street.

Valeria McMillian, who lives two blocks away, says, “My daughter called and said someone got shot and when I ran over here, she was laying on the porch.”

She says it’s a call she would have never expected.

“He was sitting on the steps crying and hollering out that he didn’t mean to do it, and that he loved his sister. It was an accident. He didn’t mean to do it”, says Valeria.

Police say the gunshot wound killed 22-year-old Kadijah Adkinson and her unborn child.

Family members and friends say they ran to her side after it happened, and tried to save her and the child.

“I’m just standing over her like ‘breathe Kadijiah, breathe’. That’s all I could say and I was shaking the whole time,” says Tara McMillian, her cousin.

Tara says it’s a haunting image many of them can’t seem to shake.

“I’ve never seen anything like that in my life and it really hurt me,” she adds. “It’s just going on and on through my head.”

A nearby neighbor, Lisa Johnson, says she was sleeping when her granddaughter, Ziah Smith, saw the police and woke her up.

“It’s very scary to hear that,” says Johnson. “You stay in a neighborhood where you never hear no one fight, argue, no shooting, no nothing. You’re just used to seeing the kids outside playing.”

They say the tragic incident has changed lives, and Guy Street, forever.
