VALDOSTA – Head Coach Rebecca Nolin and the Valdosta State soccer program are pleased to announce the Blazers’ schedule for the upcoming 2016 season.

“I am very excited about the 2016 schedule,” exclaimed Nolin. “We have a very tough start to our season this year with five games in 11 days, and four of those five on the road. This will be a huge test for us, and I am looking forward to seeing the players rise to the challenge. Although we do have a large incoming class, it will give us depth and options to keep the leges fresh during those 11 days.”

The campaign kicks off with a match against Sunshine State Conference opponent Saint Leo in Saint Leo, Fla. on Thursday, September 1, at 7:00 p.m. Three short days later, the Blazers will take the pitch for the first time at home for the 2016 home opener at the VSU Soccer Complex against Auburn Montgomery on Sunday, September 4.

Following the home opener, Valdosta State will return to the road for a long stretch of away games, starting with three matchups against Peach Belt Conference opponents before Gulf South Conference play opens up in Alabama with road contests against Alabama-Huntsville and West Alabama on September 16 and September 18, respectively.

“As always, we look forward to the conference season,” added Nolin in reference to the GSC slate for 2016. “There is no easy game, so we have to make sure we take care of ourselves to be able to put oout the strongest team each week. Our expectations here at VSU always remain the same, which is to challenge for the regular season and conference tournament titles. The coaching staff can not wait to get preseason started!”

The GSC portion of the schedule brings the red and black back to the friendly confines of the VSU Soccer Complex on Friday, September 23, as the Argonauts of West Florida come to town for a showdown under the lights at 7:00 p.m. Three out of the next four matches are slated to take place on the road before the schedule shifts to a host of home games to close out the regular season schedule. Valdosta State’s final match will take place against Shorter at 7:00 p.m. on October 29th.
