VALDOSTA – Sights and sounds from around the globe will delight guests at Mathis Auditorium this week as VLPRA holds is 8thAnnual Prom for Individuals with Disabilities.

The theme is “One Night Around the World” and prom is open to any individual with a disability, regardless of age.

The Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks & Recreation Authority’s Therapeutics division has hosted the formal event for almost ten years.  Therapeutics Coordinator Tammy Crosby says the dance is one of the department’s most anticipated events.

“Many of our participants never got the chance to go to a school prom, so this is their opportunity to get dressed up and attend a formal dance.  They look forward to it every year and talk about it for months leading up to the big night.”

The dance will have all the features of a high school prom with a DJ, light refreshments, and the crowning of Prom King and Queen including flowers donated by Zant’s Flower Shop.  Wes Sewell Photography will be available from6:00 PM until 8:00 PM for official prom photos.

Prom runs from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Friday, June 24th at Mathis Auditorium. Tickets are only $8.00 and are available at www.vlpra.com, at VLPRA’s main office on Forrest Street, and at the event itself.
