Valdosta man indicted for murder

VALDOSTA – A Valdosta man has been indicted for murder in connection with the lethal shooting of a man in January.

Kelvin Latchie, 19, was indicted Friday by a Superior Court of Lowndes County grand jury. Latchie was charged with felony murder, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault and criminal attempt to purchase marijuana, according to court documents.

The charges stem from the January 25 shooting death of Lenton Swint, 21. Swint was shot after after answering a knock at the door of his residence in the 1000 block of Cherokee Street. He died shortly after at South Georgia Medical Center.

A man was shot Monday night at a duplex on Cherokee Street in Valdosta.

Valdosta Police Department investigtors identified three other suspects who were then charged with party to the crime of felony murder: Brian Sutton, 21, Johnny Slocumb Jr., and Daryn Wooten, 18, according to VPD reports.

 

 

A trial for Latchie will be set at a later date.
