TIFTON – Motorists are reminded that Reames and Son Construction Co. Inc. of Valdosta started a major Interstate 75 resurfacing project over the weekend.

The contractor will be resurfacing 18.8 miles of the roadway and off- and on-ramps beginning south of Southwell Boulevard in Tift County and ending south of state Route 32/Jefferson Davis Highway in Turner County. The cost of the project is $19.8 million.

All the northbound ramps will be milled and resurfaced first. The contractor expects to complete one on- and off-ramp per night. When a ramp is closed, traffic will be detoured to the next northbound ramp. This type of work can be done only during favorable weather so inclement weather will affect the schedule.

The project started Sunday. The contractor will work a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday schedule with ramp closures allowed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. The project is scheduled to be complete Jan. 31, 2017.

Additional ramps scheduled for work this week are:

Exit 60/South Central Avenue – Monday, May 9
Exit 61/Omega Road – Tuesday, May 10
Exit 62/U.S. 82/state Route 520 – Wednesday, May 11
Exit 63A/Second Street/King Road and Exit 63B (Eighth Street/Whiddon Mill Road) – Thursday, May 12. (NOTE – the contractor plans to close these ramps together).
