VALDOSTA – The Pine Grove Elementary Archery Team recently traveled to Louisville, Kentucky to participate in the National Archery Tournament presented by (NASP) National Archery in Schools Program. This tournament brings teams together from all over the United States. This is our second year of participating in this tournament.

Last year PGE participated and finished 119 out of 148 teams in the elementary division. This year we improved our ranking and finished in the top 29 percent of the United States. We finished 45 out of 156 teams in the nation. We also participated in the 3 D Tournament finishing 19 out of 66 teams. The PGE Archery Team will now compete in the World Tournament in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Archery has opened new worlds for the students at Pine Grove Elementary. Not only is it a fun activity to participate in with friends, it provides opportunity for travel and new experiences.

Archery students have to work hard, remain disciplined and learn to focus. It teaches respect, responsibility and gives students a sense of pride to be part of something.

There is no funding for sports at the elementary level. The program is run by volunteers only. We rely on community support to help make this possible.

The community was very supportive in helping us to be able to take 27 students to Nationals. The community helped by donating many items to our raffle, purchasing banners, new targets and monetary donations. Again, thanks to everyone that contributed to this great cause.
