Pedestrian struck and killed on Hwy. 84

VALDOSTA – A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Highway 84 Thursday morning, according to the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 6:20 a.m., Georgia State Patrol Trooper Clay Cothron responded to a crash on GA 38 (US 84) approximately a half mile east of Tower Road in Lowndes County.

A pedestrian, identified as Lester Brooks, 38, of Douglas was walking eastbound on GA 38 in the left eastbound lane.

An unknown vehicle struck Brooks and left the scene of the collision. Troopers suspect the vehicle may have been a tractor trailer.

Brooks was wearing dark colored clothing while walking in an unlit portion of GA 38. Brooks was pronounced deceased on scene by Deputy Coroner Brad Carter.

A toxicology report will be pending for Brooks. GSP Troop H SCRT will be continuing an investigation of the collision.
