Moody airman pleads guilty to child sex and pornography charges

MOODY AFB – A Moody Air Force Baseman has pleaded guilty to child sexual abuse and child pornography.

SSgt. Troy Ecklund, 29, 23d Equipment Maintenance Squadron, was arrested August 1 after the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained a child pornography video.

The video contained identifying information which prompted investigators to contact the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators were then able to use the video to identify Ecklund and make an arrest

Last month, Ecklund pleaded guilty to all charges against him of violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice.  Ecklund had been charged with two counts of violating Article 120b, sexual abuse of a child, and three counts of violating Article 134, knowingly and wrongfully producing, possessing and distributing child pornography, said Kaitlyn Toner, 2nd Lt. USAF, Moody Public Affairs.

“Ecklund was found guilty by a military judge alone and was sentenced to reduction to Airman Basic (E-1), a dishonorable discharge and confinement for 14 years. Pursuant to a pretrial agreement, confinement in excess of 12 years will not be approved,” said Toner. “Ecklund’s actions do not reflect the collective character and professionalism of the men and women serving in the 23d Wing, nor do they align with our core values. Our Airmen are held to the highest of standards and no form of misconduct is tolerated by the United States Air Force.”

LCSO detectives seized several computers and cellphones during Ecklund’s arrest and spent several months processing evidence.
