Lowndes FFA Dominates Stars Over Georgia

Lowndes FFA had a total of 27 State Winners at the recent Georgia FFA Convention.

MACON – Chandler Kudyk and Hunter Corbett were awarded as two of the four FFA Stars Over Georgia based on their supervised agricultural experience (SAE) programs at the recent State Convention of the Georgia FFA Association. Multiple other students from the Lowndes School System were state winners as well, making for a combined 28 state wins.

Kudyk was named the Georgia Star in Agribusiness. His SAE was based on his Lawncare business, CHC Lawncare and Pressure Washing. Kudyk has developed a landscaping SAE program over the past 6 years. Kudyk is the son of Nick and Kim Kudyk.

Corbett was named the Georgia Star in Agriscience. He has had a research SAE over the past 6 years. His research was focused on using cotton gin trash to clean up the BP Oil Spill of 2010. Corbett is the son of Tracy and James Corbett.

Six students won Proficiency competitions based on their SAE programs: Landon Herring – Specialty Crop Production, Callie Warren – Fruit Production, Chance Hingson – Food Science, Bailey Anderson – Equine Science, Kudyk – Outdoor Recreation, and, Corbett – Agriscience Integrated Systems. Also competing in Proficiency were Jackson Sumner and Ian Bennett.

Joe Corbett of PGMS won the Middle School SAE Recordbook competition in Forestry/Natural Resources.

Lowndes also dominated the Agriscience Fair: (System – Division, Winner) Animal – I, Ellision Pitchford, II, Clay Parker, III, Liz Fisher and Gabby Daughtery; Environmental – I, Ty Parks (LMS), II, Charity Brown, III, Cedric Montgomery and Zach Gay; Food – II, Brianna Matheny, IV, Levi Herring and Conway McNeil; Plant – II, Courtney Cameron, IV, Chandler Kudyk and Chance Hingson; Power – II, Trevor Ross, IV, Frank Balmer and Jackson Sumner; and, Social – II, Kayla Hall, III, Joe Corbett and Levi Brown (PGMS). Second places included Dawson Peek, Shaw Wacter, and Hunter Corbett.

Courtney Cameron was First Runnerup in the Senior Prepared Public Speaking competition. Liz Fisher competed in Junior Prepared Speaking. Frank Balmer competed in the Discussion Meet.

Ian Bennett completed his service as a State Officer. He chaired Session 1 and gave a retiring address in Session 3 entitled, “Champion.”

Several Lowndes Schools FFA Chapters were recognized for 100% membership: PGMS, LMS, and LHS.
