VALDOSTA – Police have released the identity of a woman who was stabbed to death early Tuesday morning at a Valdosta motel.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., the Valdosta Police Department was dispatched to Big 7 Motel in the 1800 block of West Hill Avenue in reference to a reported stabbing, said VPD Lt. Adam Bembry.

Upon arrival, officers located two victims that were suffering from stab wounds. Officers provided first aid to both victims.

Cecilia Whiddon, 50, of Valdosta was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second victim was transported to South Georgia Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services and later released.”

Both victims were white females, according to police reports.

Officers on scene began investigating and detectives and crime scene technicians from the Valdosta/Lowndes Crime Laboratory responded.

“During the investigation, it was learned that a possible dispute occurred between one of the victims and the offender. During the dispute, the offender allegedly stabbed both victims and then fled the area,” Bembry said. “Detectives were able to develop a suspect, Robert Gamble, and he was arrested less than two hours after the murder/assault on the 100 block of East North Street.”

This case is still active and detectives are attempting to gather further evidence but at this point, no additional offenders are believed to be involved, Bembry said.

Robert Emmanuel Gamble, 20, faces charges of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, home invasion in the 1st degree and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony, reports stated.

The name of the victim has yet to be released.

“I am very proud of the victim and witness who assisted us in this case and the responding officers, detectives, and the members of the District Attorney’s Office of the Southern District Circuit for working together on this case. The result of the teamwork was ensuring a dangerous offender was taken into custody very quickly before he hurt someone else,” said VPD Chief Brian Childress.
