QUITMAN- “I feel very honored, humbled and appreciative to the faculty at Quitman Elementary.  They have such dedication and passion for educating students, that to be selected by this faculty is truly an honor,” says Regina Gerleman.

For twenty years Gerleman has worked as a teacher, eight of those last years have been at QES.  “I began volunteering at my children’s elementary school.  The principal convinced me that I needed to substitute since I was always at the school anyway. I began substitute teaching and loved it,” says Gerleman.  It was not until her children became adults however, that Gerleman took the first step into earning her education degree.

Gerleman believes that to be a great teacher, one must persevere, have passion for student success, dedication, empathy as well as a nurturing heart.  If it is one thing Gerleman would like her students to keep in mind it is to do unto others as you would have them to unto you.

Gerleman has not stopped reaching new milestones in life.  Recently, she began taking classes to earn her Ed Specialist.  “I plan on continuing teaching and using strategies taught during those courses to help my students succeed, she says.
