Man Killed in Quitman Crash

BROOKS Co.- Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor in a single vehicle wreck that killed a Tallahassee man in Brooks County Saturday night.

At approximately 10:15, GSP Trooper Jeremy Swain TFC Jeremy Swain responded to a single vehicle accident on Dry Lake Road near Simpson Road. A white 2007 Ford F250 driven by Curtis Lanier James, 39, of Tallahassee, Fla. was traveling east on Dry Lake Road too fast for the conditions of the roadway.

While attempting to negotiate a curve, James traveled off the south shoulder of the roadway. The F250 struck a mailbox on the shoulder of the roadway. James overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise and cross over Dry Lake Road.

The vehicle traveled off the north shoulder of the roadway and struck a tree. After striking the tree, the vehicle overturned coming to a final rest on its top facing north.

James was pronounced deceased on scene by Brooks County Coroner Mike Miller.

James was unrestrained during the crash.

Troopers also suspect alcohol to be a contributing factor in the crash but will be pending a toxicology report.

No charges will be filed. Next of kin was notified by Florida Highway Patrol in Tallahassee.


 

QUITMAN – A single car crash in Georgia Saturday night has left one person dead.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a man was driving east when he ran off of the side of Dry Lake Road in Quitman and his pickup truck overturned.

Authorities have not released the identity of the victim and no further details are available at this time, reports WCTV.
