VALDOSTA – A Valdosta man wanted on aggravated assault charges was arrested Tuesday night after a sheriff’s deputy found him parked at a closed gas station.

Shannon Kier, 38, was wanted by the Valdosta Police Department on the following charges: two felony counts of aggravated assault by strangulation and one felony count of cruelty to children in the 1st degree, according to VPD reports.

Kier allegedly choked his girlfriend and her daughter during a dispute, reports stated.

At approximately 11 p.m. Tuesday, Lt. Kenny Yarborough with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office noticed a vehicle parked at a closed gas station in the 5100 block of Madison Highway, said LCSO Capt. Stryde Jones.

“The deputy stopped and checked with the occupants. One of the persons provided what was later determined to be a false name and date of birth. Lieutenant Yarbrough continued to inquire and eventually identified the person as Shannon Kier,” Jones said.

Kier was taken to the Lowndes County Jail and will appear in the Lowndes County Magistrate Court Wednesday afternoon for an arraignment hearing. A bond will be considered at that time.

“This is good example of the effort our deputies put forth. Lieutenant Yarbrough kept digging and got Kier’s true identity; great job,” said Sheriff Chris Prine.

Let’s hope the girlfriend doesn’t expose her daughter to another abuser.
