| March 24, 2016

VALDOSTA – Valdosta State University recently hosted visiting researcher and lecturer Dr. Akemi Soeda, a member of the faculty at Kanto Gakuin University in Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama, Japan.

During her month-long visit, Soeda conducted research in the area of client violence towards social workers with Dr. Hanae Kanno, an assistant professor in VSU’s Department of Social Work, and volunteered at My Friend’s House, a university-sponsored day program for senior citizens with dementia and other special needs.

She led various presentations, including discussing her work with elder abuse and long-term care insurance in Japan with students pursuing a Master of Social Work at VSU. At her home institution of higher education, Soeda teaches and trains undergraduate students who want to become social workers and graduate students who want to further develop their skills and knowledge.
