A major recall is underway on the product Maytag Blue Cheese produced by Maytag Dairy Farms due to a possible Listeria contamination. The cheese was sold nationwide to restaurants by direct mail, via wholesalers and retail outlets through distributors between November 24th of 2015 and February 11th of this year.


Lake Park resident Kortni Lawlor, 32, was taken to the Lowndes County Jail after a marijuana growing operation was discovered inside closets at a residence in the 5200 block of David drive. Sheriff’s deputies went to the home looking for someone else and a search turned up 34 marijuana plants. The investigation is still open and investigators expect to make other arrests and more charges will be filed.


State labor officials say Georgia’s unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level in nearly eight years. The Georgia Department of Labor announced that the state’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate for January was 5.4 percent, down from 6.3 percent in January 2015. According to officials the last time Georgia’s unemployment rate was 5.4 percent was in February 2008.
