The investigation into the death of a Rocky Ford man is underway. The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department went to the residence where it was reported that the male resident was armed and refused to exit the home. The man was later found dead but the cause of death is unknown at this time.

Voters in Lowndes County cast the majority of their ballots for GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump in the Georgia Presidential Primary on Tuesday. With all precincts reporting, Trump received 4,279 votes. In the Democratic primary, Hillary Clinton came out on top in Lowndes. Echols County was the only Georgia county to cast a majority of votes for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primary.

Acting on a tip Valdosta Police Officers apprehended Terrill Blackshear, 26, on the charge of carrying a concealed weapon and 34 year old James Ware, on the charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Ware was also arrested on an active state warrant.

Voters in Colquitt have approved by ballots an extension of a penny tax for the Colquitt County schools. The five year extension of the E-SPLOST garnered just over 70 percent of the votes to nearly 30 percent of those opposed to the initiative. Voters also approved the use of some of that E-SPLOST funding for an indoor practice facility for the football team that will include classrooms, indoor practice field, weight room and space for physical education.

When DFACS investigators went to a Moultrie home in the 200 block of 15th Street they found two children-aboy and a girl without supervision playing in the street. Upon entering the residence the DFACS workers reported the smell of sewage, moldy walls and the pungent odor of methamphetamine. Code enforcement officials were called to the residence and according to the sheriff’s department most of the residents of the home were users of methamphetamine. 25 year old Haley Marie Tucker and her boyfriend Johnny Lee Kennedy age 24, were each charged with disorderly conduct. Police also charged Tucker on outstanding arrest warrants on charges of battery and simple battery. methamphetamine was discovered in one of the rooms in the house and a male resident was taken into custody. The Georgia Division of Family and Children Services took protective custody of the children.
