METCALF – One BASE jumper has died and two others have been arrested following a jump from a television tower in southern Thomas County.

First responders were dispatched to Friendship Church Road at the site of a 2,000-foot television tower around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Authorities say Miles Daisher, Tom Baker and Brandon Jackson arrived at the tower around midnight. Daisher and Baker said they stayed on the ground with radios while Jackson climbed about 1,600 feet before he jumped.

Daisher and Baker also told authorities that they heard Jackson’s parachute deploy and thought that the jumper may have struck a wire on the way down.

The men called authorities after searching for the Jackson for about an hour. Jackson’s body was later found in trees that are about 800 to 1000 yards away from the tower.
