Flood warning issued for Lowndes and Brooks through Friday night

VALDOSTA – The National Weather Service in Tallahassee has continued a Flood Warning for the Withlacoochee River above Valdosta at Skipper Bridge Road, affecting Brooks and Lowndes Counties.

The Flood Warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Friday night.

NWS forecasts minor flooding for the river. At 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, the river was at flood stage, 135 ft.  Minor flooding is occurring and is forecast to continue. The river is expected to rise near 135.5 feet by Thursday night.

“All persons with interest along the river should monitor the latest forecasts, and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect life and property. Do not drive cars through flooded areas. If you see flood waters: Turn around. Don`t drown,” stated a NWS release.
