VALDOSTA – For the fourth time this season and the 12th time of her career, Caitlyn Calhoun was named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week in an announcement on Tuesday by the GSC office.

It’s no surprise that Calhoun earned the recognition after her historic week for Valdosta State. The righty out of Hamilton, Ohio started her week off on a high note and solidified her status as one of the top pitchers in GSC history on Tuesday, when she tossed her sixth career no-hitter against the Florida Southern Mocs. The total number of no-hitters for Calhoun throughout her stellar career tied the all-time GSC record, and she now represents one of just three players to ever reach the milestone.

Calhoun’s strong week continued in Jackson, Tenn., as the senior dealt another shutout on Saturday in an 11-3 GSC victory and followed up on Sunday with a complete game effort in a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs. She struck out 12 batters in each of the two league matchups against Union to cap her week off with a total of 30 strikeouts.

On the year, Calhoun currently holds a 15-4 record and leads the Gulf South Conference in innings pitched (134), complete games (20), shutouts (10), and strikeouts (137).

Valdosta State returns to action at home on Friday afternoon for the start of a three-game weekend tilt against the visiting Flames of Lee. The series begins with a doubleheader on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
