VALDOSTA, Ga. – Following another week with stratospheric numbers, pitcher Caitlyn Calhoun and first basemen Kiley Rusenwere named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, by the GSC office on Tuesday.

Rusen earned her first GSC Player of the Week award after an incredible week that included five home runs and 15 runs batted in. Two of Rusen’s five homers were walkoff drives over the weekend against Christian Brothers to secure mercy rule victories for Valdosta State, and her last swing of the week was a game-ending grand slam on Sunday afternoon. Rusen hit .588 on the week with 10 hits in 17 at bats, and the Brookfield, Ill. native added seven runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base.

For Calhoun, the senior posted a spotless effort on a week in which she did not allow her opponents to score a run. Throughout 19 innings of work, Calhoun struck out 26 batters and allowed just six hits. While compiling a 0.00 ERA and holding the opposition to an 0.97 batting average over four appearances, the Tallawanda High School graduate made four appearances and allowed just one walk. She racked up three complete games of work with an additional appearance in game two of Wednesday’s double header, which led to her first save of the season. The honor for Calhoun marks the ninth of her career and her second straight this season.
