VALDOSTA, Ga. – After an outstanding opening weekend to the 2016 season, Blazer baseball’s Tyler York earned his first career Gulf South Conference Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

The Valdosta State baseball team put up a strong showing on the road this past weekend with a split in Dahlonega, Ga. against the No. 18 ranked North Georgia Nighthawks on Saturday. During the doubleheader, York fueled the Blazer offense, particularly in game two’s 10-5 win, in which the Tallahassee, Fla. native went 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI’s.

Overall on the day, York clubbed five hits in six at bats to finish the weekend with an .833 batting average. In addition, the senior scored a run, tallied nine total bases, and added a double to round out his spectacular start.
