| January 29, 2016

MADISON COUNTY, Fla. – Two children taken from St. Petersburg, Florida were found safe in Madison County Thursday, and a woman has been arrested.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received an Amber Alert from the St. Petersburg Police Department for two children who had been taken and were believed to be in danger.

St. Petersburg investigators believed the children were with Gigi Sandu, 46.

A tip from a witness led MCSO deputies to a hotel in Madison County. Deputies went to the hotel and knocked on Sandu’s room door, and she reportedly answered holding one of the missing children.

Sandu was arrested without incident on a warrant out of St. Petersburg for interfering with child custody, reports WCTV.

Both children were turned over to the Florida Department of Children and Family Services.
