VALDOSTA – The Special Education department of Valdosta City Schools recently recognized two of their staff members as Teachers of the Month.

Rachael Wilkerson was named October Special Education Teacher of the month for Valdosta City Schools. Mrs. Wilkerson keeps the expectations of her students high and stresses the importance of being more independent.  “When she is asked to do something, she does it with a smile,” said Dr. Vakesha Mays, special education director.

Sixth grade co-teacher at Newbern Middle School, Jessica Barnes was named the December Special Education Teacher of the Month. “Ms. Barnes has been one of the most adaptable, fun-loving and hardworking special education teachers this year,” said Dr. Mays.

Congratulations Ms. Wilkerson and Ms. Barnes.
