VALDOSTA – A three-vehicle crash brought traffic to a standstill on Interstate 75 Thursday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Georgia State Patrol Trooper Shane Copeland responded to an accident with injuries on I-75 southbound Exit 16, according to GSP Cpl. Chris Kelch.

“A 2006 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Tacarea Donaldson, 25, of Valdosta was traveling south in the center lane. She passed her intended exit and slowed in attempt to allow a tractor trailer pass in the right lane to attempt to make her turn to the exit ramp at Exit 16,” kelch said. “A 2003 Ford van driven by Peter Goranov, 55, of Redford Township, Michigan was traveling southbound in the center lane behind the Pacifica. Mr. Goranov attempted to swerve to avoid a collision but struck the Pacifica in the driver’s side rear end with the passenger side front end of the van.”

The Pacifica rotated clockwise colliding with a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder driven by Galia Tzolova, 46. Tzolova was travelling southbound behind her husband who was driving the Ford van, Kelch said.

“The Pathfinder struck the Pacifica in the passenger side rear end with its driver’s side front end while the Pacifica was rotating. The Pathfinder came to a final rest in the right southbound lane of I-75. The Pacifica came to a final rest on the exit ramp to Exit 16,” Kelch said. “The Ford van traveled into the left lane and loses its passenger side front tire. The van then rotates clockwise and travels to the right southbound lane. A 2015 International tractor trailer driven by Joel McMillian of Adel collides with the van in the right lane, striking the van in its passenger side.”

The van then traveled across the southbound lane, striking a guardrail. The van was struck again by the same tractor trailer in the passenger side. the van and tractor came to a final rest against the guardrail. The tractor came to rest blocking the center and left lanes of I-75, Kelch said.

Goranov, the driver of the van, was trapped after the collisions and had to be extracted, Kelch said.

Donaldson, the driver of the Pacifica, was transported to South Georgia Medical Center with minor injuries and has since been discharged. She was issued a citation for impeding the flow of traffic, reports stated.

“No other injuries were reported from the other three drivers,” Kelch said.

All three southbound lanes of I-75 were closed at Exit 16 until approximately 8:30 a.m.
