Suspect arrested for allegedly killing his child’s mother

PERRY, Fla. – Investigators have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with the murder of a woman whose body was found behind a shopping center Wednesday night.

Billy Lee Gear, 36, has been charged with first degree murder and is currently in the Taylor County Jail where he is being held without bond, according to reports.

Gear was arrested after police received a tip from an individual who allegedly witnessed Gear dragging the woman’s body into a wooded area.

The victim has been identified as Melissa Darnell, 23, of Perry. Perry had a child with Gear, and investigators believe the murder was an act of domestic violence, reports WCTV.

Darnell’s body was found in a wooded area behind Walmart off of South Jefferson Street in Perry.
