(UPDATE) VALDOSTA – According to VPD Chief Brian Childress, a man shot Monday evening in Valdosta has died. Police are now investigating a homicide.

VALDOSTA – A man is in critical condition after being shot Monday evening at a duplex on Cherokee Street in Valdosta.

Few details have emerged about the shooting, but Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said his department is investigating the shooting and looking for suspects.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., a man was reportedly shot in the chin. He has been transported to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment and is in critical condition, Childress said.

“Crime Scene technicians are out there, and at this point it does not appear to be a random act,” Childress said.
