VPD investigating St. Augustine Road traffic fatality

VALDOSTA – A man who was struck in a serious traffic accident on North St. Augustine Road Wednesday afternoon has died, according to the Valdosta Police Department.

At approximately 3:34, VPD officers responded to 1100 block of North St. Augustine Road in reference to a two vehicle accident, said Capt. Kari Williams.

“Two vehicles collided, and one of the driver’s was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where he died,” Williams said.

The name of the victim has not been released.

VPD officers blocked off a portion of North St. Augustine Road from Norman Drive to Gornto Road following the incident.

Witnesses at the scene said the driver of a yellow scooter was struck and that a bystander attempted to perform CPR on the man before he was transported by EMS.

Valdosta Today will report additional information as it becomes available.

    Thank you so much to the person who tried to wake my father up. He was so kind. If the roles were reversed he would of done the same. He once helped pull a family out of an upturned RV, and he even lost part of a finger helping an elderly couple on the side of the road in a separate incident. I hope this horrible tragedy leads to a light at this intersection, because this was a pointless sad event.
