Light snow falls on Valdosta, freeze warning in effect

| January 23, 2016

VALDOSTA – Shortly after 10 a.m. Saturday, keen-eyed Lowndes County residents could spot small flakes of snow and sleet falling and quickly evaporating as soon as they hit the ground.

The almost microscopic snowfall is the product of Winter Storm Jonas which has created blizzard conditions for much of the northeast, including a predicted two feet of snow in New York City.

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee expects temperatures to stay cool for Saturday, with a 42 degree high. The temperature will dip to 28 by Sunday morning.

A freeze warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. Below freezing temperatures between 26 and 29 degrees could last for five to 11 hours, according to NWS.
