J.L. Lomax announces spelling bee winners

VALDOSTA – J. L. Lomax held its Seventh Annual Spelling Bee in the media center Friday, January 22. The winners were Darris Roberts (first place), Kaliel McCray (second place), and Asia Smith (third place). Congratulations to all of our distinguished learners for an excellent competition and most memorable experience.

The other participants were: Mez’Meriah Stanley, Leticia Martinez, William Scott, Jabarie Baker, David Gilyard, Abram Hadley, Antrion Sims, Kamron Gilmore, Marlon Wright, Gwenesha Ephron, Jayden Battle, and Janiyah McGolley.

Mrs. Vickie Burt, retired assistant superintendent from Valdosta City Schools, was the caller. The judges were Dr. Joseph Brown, retired dean from Valdosta State University; Mr. Lenon Harvey, a Community Partner In Education (CPIE) member; and Mrs. Janice Hunt, a retired educator from Valdosta City Schools and also a CPIE member.

Dr. LaConya McCrae, principal, and Ms. Sheila Robinson, Spelling Bee coordinator, presented the participants with certificates and awards. Afterwards, light refreshments were served.
