GBI: Inmate death accidental, meth involved

| January 15, 2016

MOULTRIE – The September death of a Colquitt County Jail inmate has been ruled accidental caused by an overdose of drugs.

Stacey Frankly Gay, 48, was discovered dead in a holding cell on Sept. 16, one day after arriving at the jail. Gay was reportedly placed alone in the cell because he had been combative with officers, reports The Moultrie Observer.

Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock reportedly told the Observer a GBI autopsy report indicated Gay died “due to the toxic effects of methamphetamine.”

The investigation in to Gay’s death is almost complete and does not indicate any wrongdoing on the part of the jail’s staff.

Gay was arrested Sept. 15 on Sylvester Highway after he reportedly refused to come out of a semi-truck which belonged to another man.
