Gardner and Jennings Garner All-Region Honors

| January 15, 2016

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Following an impressive defensive effort throughout the 2015 season, both Shelby Jennings and McCall Gardner earned All-South Region honors by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) upon conclusion of the 2015 season.

All-Region student-athletes are chosen based on a voting process in which coaches from across the region vote for the players that they consider the top performers in the NCAA Division II South Region. As a result, both Gardner and Jennings were picked as First Team selections.

Jennings helped lead the Blazer defense to four shutouts on the 2015 season while racking up 1593 minutes of play and starts in every contest this season. The honor marked Jennings’ first career All-Region honor and capped off a career that included four assists, 16 shots on goal, and four career goals. As a Blazer, Jennings recorded over 3500 career minutes on the pitch.

For Gardner, her performance during her senior season resulted in 104 saves, including a myriad of brilliant stops. Two of her denials this season were PK saves, and both preserved shutouts for the Blazers. Her average of 6.12 saves per contest this season placed her second overall in the Gulf South Conference, and represented the highest saves per game total in the history of Valdosta State soccer.

In addition to their outstanding athletic performance, both seniors were also honored this season for their academic success, earning recognition from the National Soccer Coaches’ Association for carrying cumulative Grade Point Averages of over 3.0, and Gardner was named this week to the GSC Fall All-Academic Team in recognition of a 3.82 GPA during the fall semester.
