Crowds gather for 31st Annual MLK Youth Showcase

VALDOSTA – A large crowd gathered at Mathis City Auditorium Monday for the 31st Annual Youth Showcase honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Students from Valdosta High School, Lowndes High School, Valdosta Middle School, Pinevale Elementary School and more participated in the event. Members of several area churches were also involved.

Valdosta City Schools Superintendent Dr. Todd Cason was the featured speaker. Cason directed much of comments at the students in attendance and echoed King’s last speech: “To reach the mountain top, you have to expect to climb.”

Cason was presented a plaque by the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorate Association, which organizes the event each year.
