Police Chief Arrested

JACKSONVILLE, GA — Reports from a small Georgia town state the Police Chief and his wife have been arrested.

Jacksonville, Georgia Police Chief Charles Briley and his wife, Ashley Briley, were arrested in Telfair County related to theft charges.  Briley is a certified Georgia police officer, according to a report from WALB.

Charges result from the alleged theft of a newspaper collection box to use as a well cover.  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation state the theft occurred between June 1st and August 31st according to the report.  The newspaper box was owned by an unnamed community service organization.

Further, the report states the Chief and his wife lied to investigators, which on its own will lead to felony charges of providing false statements and violation of oath by a public officer.
