VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State Blazers earned another trip to the NCAA Division II National Football Playoffs as they will host Carson-Newman Saturday.

The Blazers opponent, Carson-Newman, is returning to the NCAA playoffs for the 15th time under their head coach Ken Sparks.  Overall, this is Sparks’ 25th postseason trip.  He’s been a head coach for 36 years.

The Blazers ended the season with a solid win against Florida Tech, earning the 4th seed in the region to Carson-Newman’s 5th seed.  This will be the eighth time the two schools have squared off with seven of those meetings occurring in the NCAA playoffs.  VSU has knocked the Eagles out of the playoffs on 3 occasions, 2004, 2008, and in the national quarterfinals in 2012.

Carson-Newman doesn’t historically perform well away from home where their record is 2-14.
