VALDOSTA –For Phyllis Bell, part of Wild Adventures Theme Park’s Terror in the Wild creative team, turning a normal, pleasant person into a creepy, gruesome clown or a ravenous zombie is her favorite part of Halloween.

“I don’t like your typical clowns – they bore me,” Bell said. “So I make mine really creepy.” One character she worked hard to create for this year’s annual Halloween event, is a most terrifying clown featured in Clown Chaos, one of nine scares offered during Terror in the Wild.

Under the direction of Bell, a team member uses white paste to cover the cast member’s healthy complexion. Next, a bright red diamond is outlined around each eye and then carefully colored in with face paint. Next, gobs of liquid, fake blood are applied around his mouth with some dripping onto his shirt and the floor.

A gentle dusting with some translucent powder and the right choice of jacket and pants and the creepy clown came alive.

“It’s pretty amazing you can take three simple things and transform this man into such a scary character,” Bell said. “It doesn’t hurt to have a bit of a creative bone, either.”

Bell offered her top 3 tips to help you get the best results on your own Halloween Makeup:

1. Think about your makeup as layers. Apply the base first then work on top of that getting more and more detailed with each layer.

2. Always make your outlines first, then color in areas and add any shading.

3. Really think about your character. The best characters have a story behind them. That story will help you detail your makeup in a way that will really bring it to life.

In addition to the haunts and scares of Terror in the Wild, Wild Adventures also offers Kid-O-Ween on Saturdays and Sundays for family-friendly fall fun. The Boo House offers kid-friendly scares with black light and silly music and kids are invited to dance along with a silly scarecrow, visit a magical pumpkin patch and march in a costume parade.
