VALDOSTA –- The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts is pleased to announce the 2015-16 Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts scholarship awards. This is the first year two scholarships have been offered by the Turner Center, which has been providing the awards since 2008. The recipients are Valdosta State University art students Elana Harper and Jiyeong Yoo.

Selected by the VSU Art Department Scholarship Committee, both students were chosen based on their outstanding academic achievements and commitment to celebrating the art in life. With their personal and professional credentials, each stood out from the talented pool of candidates.
Elana Harper is a senior studying to earn a BA in Art with a focus on jewelry and metals.

Professor Esther Iverson (Theatre & Dance Department) says that among Elana’s strengths are her interest in learning and her ability to balance her schedule. She states that Elana “not only prepares the lesson as it was assigned, but goes beyond that and brings more to her class work and her projects.”

Jiyeong Yoo is an international student from South Korea currently in her junior year studying interior design. Professor Tommy Crane (Interior Design) describes Yoo as “dedicated in what she does.” Yoo expresses the desire to eventually work for an organization such as Habitat for Humanity and build homes for lower income families.

From funds earned through the 2015 DrawProject event, The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts provided $1500 scholarships to both Harper and Yoo. Conditions of the scholarships include community service as arts advocates.
