| October 23, 2015

MEIGS  — The mayor of Meigs, the small town north of Thomasville, was arrested today in connection with money that was taken from city hall.

Harris_LindaFrom a report from WCTV, investigators with the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office say Mayor Linda Harris took $80 in cash that was taken in as payment for city services.

Authorities say Harris told them she was going on a trip for city business and took the cash in case the city credit card didn’t work.

She was arrested at noon Friday and is expected to face charges of interference with government property and violation of oath of office.

This is Harris’ third arrest since becoming Mayor.

She was arrested in April 2014 and charged with disorderly conduct—accused of making threatening gestures and remarks toward fellow city officials, including the city clerk. She was also arrested in late 2013, accused of stalking the former Meigs mayor who she defeated in the November 2013 election.
