Turner Field

ATLANTA — Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is pushing for plans to have Turner Field redeveloped within 5 years.

This aggressive plan will begin once the Authority that operates the stadium complex issues requests for proposal (RFP) to potential developers early next month.

The Atlanta Fulton County Recreational Authority controls the site.

Residents around the stadium, though, voiced concerns with the timetable. Some community activists wanted more study done on potential strategies before the RFP is issued.

The RFP’s will require a response from developers and their capital partners by mid-November which should attract a large list of interested parties.

Reed stated in published reports that he wants action before the improvement in real estate prices subsides.  He stated he believes it will take at least 2 years to plan, design, and begin construction on the first phases of a potential project.

The Braves, the stadium’s current tenant, will leave after next season, moving to the new SunTrust Park in Cobb County.
