Tour Championship Returns to East Lake

| September 22, 2015

ATLANTA — The course where Bobby Jones learned the game will again host the 2015 season finale, the Tour Championship.

The East Lake Golf Club, formerly Atlanta Athletic Club, was the childhood home of Jones until the club was moved to Jones Creek due to the surrounding deteriorating neighborhood.  However, the PGA Tour purchased the property and have turned it into a golf showplace, which now annually hosts the final tournament of the season.

Golf’s 30 top players, by points, earn their opportunity to play for the Fed Ex Cup and $10 million in prize money.

In other news, past winner Jim Furyk announced he will be forced to withdraw from the tournament due to a bone contusion on his left wrist.  That announcement was made Tuesday by the PGA Tour.  He had not withdrawn from a PGA event in 20 years, including 477 straight events.  He hopes to heal in time to participate in the upcoming President’s Cup event in October.
